A whistleblower website called wikileaks has closed operations due to financial problems. The site allows people to publish uncensored information anonymously has now hit money flow crisis. Reports claim that running costs including staff payments stood at £377,00 whilst only being able to raise funds of £81,000. the site became popular due to it’s ability to publish information that newspapers and traditional media could not. The website claims that it’s a non-profit organisation and relies on donations from what it calls human right campaigners. Although the site has won international awards for its work from the Economist and Amnesty International it has also fought more than a 100 legal challenges. The site deemed useful due to it’s power of putting up unedited documents up.
