Online Advertising Earns more than TV

For the 1st time here in the UK, total online advertising spend per year has overtaken total TV advertising spend per year. When you think that Google is taking cuts on the vast majority of this you get to realize how big the Search Giant has become.

Online advertising now accounts for 23.5% of the UK advertising market, compared to just 21.9% market share with TV advertising. £1.69 billion was spent in the first 6 months in online advertising this year, compared to just under £20 million ten years ago.

IAB’s Chief executive Guy Phillipson said:

“We could absolutely see it grow to being a 30% medium [of share of ad spend], to go past £4bn to even £5bn annually,”
