Increase in Depression Figures Linked to Heavy Internet Usage

UK Psychologists have found that there is a strong link between depression and heavy use of the internet. According to a study in the journal Psychopathology, 1.2% of people who were surveyed were found to be internet addicts and were also suffering from depression. The team from Leeds university however couldn’t say for definite that one was linked to the other as many of the internet users did not suffer mental health problems.
The findings were based on 1,319 responses to a questionnaire set up on line via links to social networking sites. The respondents averaged a age of 21 answered a wide range of questions to assess if they suffered from depression.
